Best time to visit Bali

Best time to visit Bali

Bali is warm all year, so the real question is wet or dry.

Dry season (April to October)

Sunny days, lower humidity and the best time for beaches, hikes and island hopping. July and August are the busiest months.

Wet season (November to March)

Short, heavy downpours, usually in the afternoon, with lush green scenery and fewer tourists. Sea crossings can be choppier.

How much does a trip to Bali cost?

How much does a trip to Bali cost?

Bali is one of the best-value destinations out there, and your money goes a long way.

  • Food: local warungs are cheap and delicious, beach clubs and cafes cost more.

  • Transport: drivers and ride-hailing apps are affordable, and fast boats to the Gilis are the bigger spend.

  • Accommodation: huge range, from budget guesthouses to villas with a pool.

  • Entry costs: budget for your visa on arrival and Bali's tourist levy.

Is Bali safe for solo female travellers?

Is Bali safe for solo female travellers?

Bali is generally a safe and welcoming place for women travelling solo. Most issues are petty theft and scooter accidents, not personal safety.

  • Don't rent a scooter unless you're experienced and properly insured.

  • Keep your phone and bag secure in busy areas.

  • Only use licensed drivers or ride-hailing apps.

  • On our trip you're with a group and a guide the whole way.

Bali visa basics

Bali visa basics

UK passport holders need a visa to visit Indonesia. You can buy a visa on arrival at the airport or apply online for an e-VOA before you fly. Bali also charges a tourist levy for international visitors.

  • Your passport needs at least 6 months left on it.

  • Check gov.uk for the latest fees and rules before travelling.

  • Other nationalities vary, so check your own government's advice.

Getting around Bali

Getting around Bali

There's very little public transport in Bali, so most people get around by car.

  • Private drivers are affordable and great for day trips.

  • Grab and Gojek work for shorter trips in the busier areas.

  • Fast boats run to the Gili Islands and Nusa Penida.

  • Traffic can be slow, so allow extra time between areas.

What to pack for Bali

What to pack for Bali

Think light, breathable and beach-ready, with a couple of modest pieces for temples.

  • A sarong or scarf to cover your shoulders and legs at temples.

  • Reef-safe sun cream and after-sun.

  • Insect repellent.

  • Sandals plus trainers for hikes and waterfalls.

  • A dry bag for boat trips.
