01
The cooler months are by far the best time to explore Egypt's sights.
Winter (October to April)
Warm days and cooler evenings, perfect for temples and long sightseeing days. Peak season is December to February.
Summer (May to September)
Very hot, especially in Luxor and Aswan, where temperatures regularly go well above 40°C.
02
Egypt is great value, with the biggest costs being entry tickets and getting between cities.
Food: local food like koshari and falafel is very cheap.
Transport: sleeper trains and domestic flights connect Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.
Entry tickets: the big sights have separate tickets, so budget for them.
Tipping: tipping (baksheesh) is expected for lots of small services, so carry small notes.

03
Egypt is a welcoming country and millions of tourists visit safely every year. Solo women can get unwanted attention, so travelling with a group and a guide makes it much more relaxed.
Dress modestly, covering shoulders and knees, especially away from resorts.
Expect persistent sellers at big sights, and a polite, firm no works.
Agree prices before rides and services.
On our trip you're with a group and a leader the whole way.
04
UK passport holders need a visa to visit Egypt. You can apply for an e-visa online before you travel or buy one on arrival at the airport.
Your passport needs at least 6 months left on it.
Visa rules and fees change, so check gov.uk before you fly.
Other nationalities vary, so check your own government's advice.

05
Most trips follow the Nile between Cairo, Luxor and Aswan.
Sleeper trains and domestic flights link the main cities.
Ride-hailing apps work well in Cairo.
Nile boats and feluccas are a highlight between Luxor and Aswan.
For sights, a local guide makes everything far easier.
06
Pack for heat, dust and modest dress.
Loose, breathable clothes that cover your shoulders and knees.
A scarf for mosques and for sun protection.
Comfortable closed shoes for temple sites and sand.
A sun hat, sunglasses and high-factor sun cream.
Small notes for tips.
A warm layer for desert nights and air-conditioned trains.
