Greece is at its best either side of peak summer.
Spring (April to June)
Warm, green and quieter. Sea temperatures pick up from late May.
Summer (July to August)
Hot, lively and busy, with the highest prices, especially on the popular islands.
Autumn (September to October)
Warm sea, fewer crowds and lower prices. September is a favourite.
Winter (November to March)
Many island hotels and ferries wind down. Athens is still great for a city break.
02
Greece suits most budgets, but costs vary a lot by island and season.
Food: tavernas and gyros are good value, while Mykonos and Santorini cost more.
Transport: ferries are the main extra, and fast boats cost more than slow ones.
Accommodation: book early for summer, as prices rise fast.
Cash: useful on smaller islands, for buses and bakeries.

03
Greece is one of the easiest and most welcoming countries for solo female travel. It's well set up for tourism and simple to move around.
Stick to well-lit areas at night, as you would anywhere.
Keep an eye on your bag in busy spots like the Athens metro.
Drink sensibly in party areas and look out for each other.
On our trip you're with a group and a local guide the whole way.
04
UK passport holders can visit Greece visa-free for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. The EU's new Entry/Exit System registers you at the border, and a pre-travel authorisation (ETIAS) is due to be introduced, so check the latest before you go.
Check your passport meets EU validity rules for your return date.
Check gov.uk for the latest entry requirements.
Other nationalities vary, so check your own government's advice.

05
Getting around Greece is one of the easier parts of the trip.
Ferries connect the islands, and summer routes can sell out, so book ahead.
The Athens metro is simple and covers most places you'll want to go.
Buses connect towns on the mainland and the bigger islands.
Allow some flexibility, as weather can delay ferries.
06
Comfort wins. Cobblestones are everywhere and island hopping means a lot of walking.
Comfortable sandals or trainers for cobbled streets.
Swimsuits, a cover-up and a sun hat.
Something to cover your shoulders for churches and monasteries.
Reef-safe sun cream.
A light layer for breezy evenings and ferries.
A small bag that's easy to carry on and off boats.
